Summary The Weekend Custodian is responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the Charles R. Beggs Activity Center in addition to some park sites.

The Weekend Custodian is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in this analysis. The Weekend Custodian is a part-time, non-exempt employee. Driving is part of the employee’s responsibilities. This is an at-will position.

Immediate Supervisor Parks & Building Manager Essential Functions Perform all job tasks within policies and procedures of the Park District’s Personnel and Safety manuals.

Attend staff meetings and complete in-service training sessions.

Work safely and professionally around patrons in public areas.

Maintain cleanliness of all building areas including offices, bathrooms, kitchen, gymnasium, fitness center, program rooms, etc.

Empty trash and recycling receptacles.

Restock all janitorial products and supplies

Operate agency machinery, equipment, and tools, as required.

Travel to park sites to clean and secure bathroom facilities.

Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor.

Adhere to all park district and program policies and procedures.

Drive a car, truck, and/or minibus for work purposes.

Marginal Functions Assist Recreation staff with special event setup/takedown.

Schedule8 hours per week. Saturday - Sunday, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Schedule may vary with seasonal requirements. Additional availability may be required for special events and/or other circumstances.

Pay Rate $18.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications At least 18 years of age.

High school diploma or equivalent.

One-to-three months related experience, preferred.

A valid Illinois Driver’s License is required along with a safe driving record.

Psychological Considerations Must have the ability to deal with other people, sometimes under stressful situations. Must be able to resolve differences and problems that arise with participants and work together with employees. Must be mature and able to use good judgement.

Physiological Considerations Must have the ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use personal protective equipment as required including, but not limited to, safety glasses, earplugs, work boots, respirators, etc. Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended amounts of time and perform work at a moderate, constant pace.

Environmental Considerations Most activities are performed indoors; these conditions include lighting, temperature, and noise. Some activities are performed outdoors; these conditions include all weather conditions such as hot temperatures and sun exposure, cold temperatures, and precipitation.

Cognitive Considerations Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English. Must be able to understand and follow instructions. Must possess good safety awareness and judgement. Must exhibit problem-solving ability and good judgement in keeping with the mission of the Park District.
