Skills Needed: Essential requirements:

- Western educated, trained and experienced Periodontist/Implantologist;
- Completion of an Accredited Dental School-D.D.S. (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine)- or equivalent/recognized Dental Degree;
- Board Certified in Periodontology - or equivalent;
- Specialist training in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry/Dental Implantology;
- At least 5 years of clinical experience and expertise ( Post-Board Certification ) as a Specialist in Periodontics and Dental Implants;

They are also trained in the planning, placement, and maintenance of dental implants. After periodontists complete dental school, they continue their education for 3 more years to obtain a postdoctoral certificate in Periodontics and limit their practices to this specialty.
