The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, housekeeping, maintenance of buildings and facilities to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provide quality environmental services to assigned campus/site to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students and staff; sweep, mop, and wax floors; wash windows and walls; place temporary patches for broken windows and doors; scour and polish tile, porcelain, mirrors, and metal fixtures; clean and arrange furniture.
- Cleans outside walkways; power wash exterior walls and surfaces; empty trash receptacles.
- Clean, sanitize, and restock supplies in locker rooms and restrooms.
- Secure buildings by ensuring doors and windows are intact and locked, and lights are out.
- Assist in the setup for and clean up after activities.
- Replace damaged ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and tubes; make minor repairs on fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
- Report damage or necessary repairs to immediate supervisor.
- Support the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintain absolute confidentiality of work‑related issues, client records, and school information; follow Governing Board Policies; perform all other related duties as required or assigned.
High School diploma or GED equivalent; or with at least six months in custodial practices; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Possess an Active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWINGSKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
- Ability to read and follow warning labels on supplies, cleaning solutions, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Commitment to create and sustain a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
Work is performed throughout campuses and District facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools and equipment, and hazardous chemicals. Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions (e.g., stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, pull, and climb ladders). May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
