Maintenance Worker, General Labor, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall appearance of cemetery, mausoleum and/or funeral home locations, including grounds keeping and simple repairs.
• Cut grass, maintain lawns, trim around trees, walkways and memorial markers, lay sod, and move and remove flowers to and from the chapel and graveside.
• Clear debris and maintain drives and walkways; perform snow removal as required.
• Erect tents, canopies and arrange chairs for graveside ceremonies.
• Assist with setup for openings and closings of interments, entombments and inurnments; arrange the chapel for services.
• Prepare crypts for entombments.
• Under supervision, operate backhoe to dig graves without damaging surrounding vaults, markers or monuments.
• Install grave markers, bronze memorials, crypt faces, and other cemetery features.
• Maintain, repair existing markers and other cemetery features; service, clean, and store equipment properly.
• Perform general maintenance of vehicles and facilities, including minor repairs and painting.
• Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and environmental guidelines.

• High school education or equivalent, or relevant work experience.
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience.
• Ability to operate hand‑held tools and equipment (shovel, pick, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, leaf blower).
• Accurate use of measuring devices (tape measure, yard‑stick, etc.).
• Physical capability to walk, stand for long periods, lift up to 150 lbs. with assistance, and push or pull up to 300 lbs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractor personnel, and client families.
• Work in extreme weather conditions; adapt to changing work schedules and multitask.
• Basic computer skills for retrieving and responding to email communications.
