Summary: Under direct supervision, the incumbent maintains assigned areas of buildings and grounds in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition. Duties include emptying trash, sweeping and vacuuming floors, cleaning classrooms, sanitizing bathrooms, managing cafeteria cleanup, and performing other custodial‑related duties.
Essential Functions- Clean assigned school facilities, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, polishing, and sealing floors in classrooms, kitchens, dining halls, and offices.
- Remove spots from floors and surfaces, wash walls, sanitise refrigerators, and perform other cleaning tasks as required.
- Maintain floors and sidewalks, sweep and mop outside areas such as blacktops, playgrounds, and sidewalks.
- Arrange furniture for classroom activities and events.
- Maintain supplies and equipment, service soap dispensers and towel boxes.
- Operate equipment such as floor polishers, steam shampooers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Secure campus by checking doors, windows, and activating the security system, and report incidents to authorities.
- Collect and dispose of rubbish and debris, and empty and wash refuse containers.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (
IVP
) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) before hiring.
- One year of custodial or maintenance experience.
- Understanding of cleaning equipment and commercial cleaning chemicals.
- Compliance with safety precautions, labels, and warnings.
- Use of hand tools for minor repairs.
- Use of commercial grade cleaning equipment.
- Reading instructions and following directions.
- Knowledge of floor, lavatory, and building area cleaning methods.
- Knowledge of sterilisation and sanitation methods.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Recognition of maintenance needs and reporting to supervisor.
- Working harmoniously with students, administrators, PTAs, teachers, and others.
- Effective communication with supervisors, staff, and students.
Regular standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, tasting, or smelling; lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Vision required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus abilities.
Working ConditionsExposure to fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, electrical shock risk, moving mechanical parts, high places, toxic chemicals, extreme temperatures, vibration, and moderate noise level.
