TPM Technician
The TPM Technician supports the development and implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and LEAN manufacturing practices on the production floor. This role focuses on creating, updating, and verifying preventative maintenance packages, work instructions, job safety analyses, standard operating procedures (SOPs), operator safety checks, equipment documentation, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures. The technician ensures that clear, accurate, and visible step-by-step instructions are present at each machine and in surrounding work areas, promotes a safe and organized environment, and maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of equipment and work spaces.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in developing and implementing TPM and LEAN manufacturing practices across the facility.
- Create, update, and verify preventative maintenance packages, work instructions, job safety analyses, SOPs, operator safety checks, equipment documentation, and LOTO procedures.
- Ensure correct and accurate SOPs are available at each machine and verify that instructions are up to date and clearly understood.
- Physically place step-by-step sticker instructions on machines, floors, and surrounding areas to ensure safe operation and clear guidance for operators.
- Maintain general exterior machine cleanliness and appearance, cleaning up any major messes or dirt as they are identified.
- Use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Explorer, photo editing software, web applications, and SAP to support documentation and reporting.
- Type at least 25 words per minute to efficiently create and update procedures, reports, and documentation.
- Collaborate with other subcontractors and internal teams to accomplish assigned projects and tasks.
- Work with operator manuals, technical prints, procedures, and personnel to research and obtain required information for maintenance and documentation.
- Perform general-purpose maintenance tasks, including painting, hanging wall objects, general cleanup, basic carpentry, basic plumbing, lighting tasks, and floor care.
- Use general hand tools safely and effectively for maintenance and improvement tasks.
- Maintain personal tools required for the job, including keeping an up-to-date documented personal tool list as part of employment requirements.
- Apply lockout/tagout procedures correctly and consistently to ensure equipment is safely de-energized before work is performed.
- Contribute to procedure writing and continuous improvement of maintenance and operational processes.
- Work with bonding and grounding concepts when applicable to equipment and facility maintenance.
- Apply knowledge of machine maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, troubleshooting, construction, and industrial maintenance in daily tasks.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence to document work performed and communicate findings or recommendations.
- Speak effectively before groups of employees or customers to explain procedures, safety practices, or project updates.
- Perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and draw and interpret bar graphs as needed for reporting and analysis.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Work with minimal supervision, operate across multiple trades as needed, and assist in training others on processes and procedures.
- Perform job duties while walking or standing for approximately 90% of the workday.
- Handle tasks in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned areas of the shop, including potentially dirty or dusty environments, and be comfortable getting hands-on with equipment and materials.
- Lift and move items weighing 50 pounds or more as required by the job.
Essential skills include:
- At least 6 months of work experience in an industrial setting such as a warehouse, production facility, or construction site.
- Lockout/tagout experience and the ability to correctly apply LOTO procedures (required).
- Strong computer skills with the ability to type without pecking and a minimum typing speed of approximately 25 words per minute.
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Explorer.
- Ability to use general computer programs and systems, including web applications, SAP, and photo suite programs.
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Ability to work in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned environments.
- Ability to walk and stand for about 90% of the workday.
