The American National Red Cross seeks a Facilities Technician to support safe, efficient operations in our mission-driven environment. This role performs routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of building systems, equipment, and grounds. Responsibilities include basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC support, and general upkeep to ensure a clean, functional, and compliant facility. The technician coordinates with staff and vendors, responds to work orders, and supports emergency readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day to day maintenance and repair of building systems, equipment, and grounds to ensure facilities are safe, clean, and mission ready.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building systems according to established schedules and Red Cross standards.
  • Respond promptly to work orders and urgent maintenance requests from staff, volunteers, and program teams to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Support disaster relief and blood services operations by ensuring vehicles bays, storage areas, loading docks, and mission critical spaces are operational and secure.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and reconfiguration of spaces for trainings, blood drives, volunteer activities, and emergency response operations.
  • Maintain building exteriors and grounds, including minor landscaping, snow/ice removal where applicable, and exterior lighting checks.
  • Monitor building access points, doors, locks, and basic security features; promptly address issues that affect safety or asset protection.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or inspections, ensuring work is performed safely and to specification.
  • Follow all safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and Red Cross procedures; use appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain a safe work area.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance in the designated tracking system.
  • Support energy and cost saving initiatives by identifying opportunities for improved building performance and resource use.
  • Collaborate closely with facilities, operations, and program staff to prioritize work that supports disaster readiness and blood collection schedules.
  • Participate in on call rotations, emergency response, or after hours work as needed during disasters, building emergencies, or critical events.
