Building Engineer

ABM Industries is seeking a Building Engineer within our Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management team in the Facilities & Maintenance industry. The Building Engineer will perform routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and repair building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and support safe, efficient operations at IDS Center. You will respond to work orders, coordinate with vendors, and ensure compliance with safety and building codes.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems at IDS Center to ensure reliable daily operations.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and required corrective repairs on HVAC equipment, pumps, motors, boilers, chillers, air handlers, VAVs, and related infrastructure.
• Respond to work orders and service calls, diagnose building system issues, and implement timely, effective solutions to minimize downtime and occupant disruption.
• Use the Building Automation System (BAS/BMS) to monitor conditions, adjust setpoints, identify alarms, and optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment rooms, roofs, tenant spaces, and common areas to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the CMMS for work orders, inspections, parts usage, and equipment history, ensuring regulatory and client requirements are met.
• Support and oversee vendors and contractors performing specialized work, ensuring adherence to site standards, safety protocols, and project scope.
• Collaborate closely with ABM Facility Managers, colleagues, and client representatives to prioritize work, coordinate access, and maintain high service standards.
• Assist with capital improvement projects, system upgrades, and retrofits by providing technical input, site coordination, and post-installation commissioning support.
• Follow all ABM and site-specific safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and regulatory requirements, and actively contribute to a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
• Provide professional, courteous communication with tenants and clients, clearly explaining issues, expected timelines, and actions taken.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional overtime to support 24/7 building operations, emergencies, and special events as needed.
