Job Summary

This position will maintain all laboratory safety and support systems for the Arizona Department of Health Services State Laboratory facility located at 250 N. 17th Ave., Phoenix, Arizona 85007. Two Laboratory Maintenance Technicians will be supervised by this position. Maintaining all HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems within the building ensures laboratory staff can complete the operational commitments required by AZDHS.

The Physical Plant Supervisor 2 Performs The Following Duties
  • Operates the building and energy management systems of the State Laboratory.
  • Supervises two Laboratory Maintenance Technicians
  • Assists with building and equipment repairs, installations, inspections, preventative maintenance, inspections and inventory as directed by the Facilities Administrator.

Job Duties

Plan and direct daily operations for the ADHS State Laboratory in preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, minor renovations and warranty activities for all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical (MPE) systems assuring that inspections are properly documented.

Monitor the entire AHDS Laboratory building utilizing Eco Sturxer Energy/Building Management Controls System to monitor equipment to ensure that the ADHS Laboratory is maintaining proper air pressures and temperature.

Perform preventive maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment maintaining required records.

Supervise the daily activities of two Laboratory Equipment Technician staff to assure that laboratory equipment is maintained on schedule.

Troubleshoot repair, test and calibrate defective or malfunctioning laboratory equipment. Responsible for maintaining integrity of security systems including card access, escorted after hours janitorial or maintenance activities.

Daily communication with the Facilities Administrator to provide feedback on daily activities and discuss issues that need to be addressed. Attend training on the complex systems of the ADHS Laboratory building, and other duties as assigned.

  • Electronic circuitry
  • Capabilities and requirements for different types of electronic test equipment and correct test methods and procedures.
  • Refrigeration cycle, temperature and pressure relationships,

  • Plumbing code
  • Basic knowledge of a computerized Building Automation System and how it relates to an HVAC system.
  • Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
