Position Highlights

The Plant Operations Technician is responsible for the monitoring and administration of the Building Management System (BMS) program. This role provides the energy, mechanical, electrical, and building automation/controls expertise for the Phoenix Campus. Maintains key relationships associated with the program, including the third-party BMS partner, internal stakeholders, and field teams to improve performance and reduce overall energy costs.

• Administration and monitoring of BMS software (Front-end) cloud based controls system. Monitor and mitigate PM, RM, and CM performance issues using BMS, and Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
• Generate reports and various documents associated with operations and performance of building systems to include metering, sub-metering, and anomalies. Document and report preservation shall include electronic archiving and storage as well as hard copy information if appropriate.
• The Plant Operations Technician works with the operations teams to identify sustainability opportunities through reduction of energy costs in associated with chilled water, electricity, natural gas consumption.
• Performs data analysis related to CMMS procedures and work orders when impacting commissioning, re-commissioning, or changes to the HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and other systems that may be monitored by the BMS.
• Position will on occasion need to read and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing specification documents.

• Ability to manage software building automation and work order systems.
• Ability to decipher graphics and automation software platforms such as Alerton, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium systems.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting required to reduce operational shutdowns and failures with building systems.
• Ability to prioritize CMMS work as it relates to HVAC and other MEP systems and equipment.
• Skill in Microsoft programs such as excel, word, power point and be able to present information in quality control discussions.

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, apprenticeship training, and relevant experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
