Position: Custodian, Lead (Pittsburg and Brentwood)

Custodian, Lead (Pittsburg and Brentwood)

Lead Custodian responsible for coordinating custodial work and supervising custodial staff at both the Pittsburg and Brentwood campuses. This position requires familiarity with LMC custodial equipment and cleaning methods, assessment of custodial needs, and providing guidance on techniques and procedures. Lead custodian will oversee facility safety and security and collaborate with campus departments to support campus operations.

Annual Salary: $53,700.00 (Step
1) – $65,424.00 (Step
5)

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day‑to‑day work of a custodial team, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Respond to emergency custodial needs and special work requests, including set‑up for events.
  • Manage floor maintenance duties: sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, polishing, and window washing.
  • Disinfect bathrooms, sinks, mirrors, hand plates, dispensers, fountains, glass doors and windows per prescribed methods.
  • Restock supplies in restrooms and public areas.
  • Empty, wash, and reline trash receptacles as needed.
  • Inspect facilities for safety hazards and report unresolved issues.
  • Provide reports on activities, schedule staffing, and maintain time records.
  • Purchase custodial supplies and maintain floor maintenance equipment.
  • Train, inspect, and review work of custodial staff.
  • Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and lamps.
  • Dispose of hazardous and e‑waste materials safely.
  • Prepare work orders in the computer system.
  • Secure buildings at shift end: lock doors, windows, and activate alarms.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience and Training

Three (3) years performing custodial duties in a similar environment.

Education / License or Certificate

  • High‑school diploma/ GED or equivalent.
  • Valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Knowledge of

  • Cleaning methods, materials, and equipment for buildings and office spaces.
  • Floor and carpet preservation techniques.
  • Supervision and training principles.
  • Safe work practices and vehicle/equipment operation.
  • Use of personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualification – Ability To

  • Perform heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Oversee, train, schedule, and organize work of others.
  • Operate and maintain custodial power equipment.
  • Execute routine supervisory duties independently.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Identify and handle chemicals appropriately.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for diversity.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous custodial or janitorial experience (lead or supervisory).
  • Experience leading custodial projects (floor stripping, waxing, deep cleaning).
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Ability to perform quality inspections and ensure standards are met.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Reliable attendance and professionalism.
  • Customer‑service orientation and positive team attitude.
