Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Utility Technician
Position Overview
As a Utility Plant Operator 2 with Warren State Hospital, you will help power essential services for the entire facility. This second shift role gives you the chance to work with advanced boiler systems while making a real difference to the patients and staff of a public psychiatric hospital with a focus on facilitating hope, healing, and recovery.
Description of WorkThis position focuses on operating and maintaining a high‑pressure boiler plant that keeps the hospital supplied with heat and hot water. You will work with mechanical systems, testing equipment, and control interfaces to support safe and reliable operations.
- Start, stop, and monitor boilers and related equipment to maintain safe, efficient heat and hot water for the hospital.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain pumps, motors, boilers, and auxiliary plant systems, tools, and equipment.
- Collect water samples from boilers and related systems, perform chemical analysis using mathematical calculations, and adjust to maintain proper feedwater quality.
- Diagnose issues, make urgent repairs to maintain operations when problems arise, and notify the plant supervisor when necessary.
- Work cooperatively with other staff on all three shifts, maintain effective verbal and written communication skills, and perform other duties to support facility upkeep as assigned.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours are 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with a rotating schedule including every other weekend.

In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), or
- One year of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
