Purpose:
Performs a wide variety of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair functions necessary to maintain the facility's steam, power and equipment in accordance with schematics, plans, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications.
Responsibilities:
+ Records and submits a Daily Engineer's Report as designated by Departmental policy.
+ Documents work functions for regulatory agencies as designated by Departmental policy.
+ Is available and in the Power Plant at all times to ensure the safety and welfare of the patients, staff and visitors.
+ Responds to and documents calls from the annunciator alarm panel as outlined in the annunciator procedure manual.
+ Completes one facility round each shift as outlined on the Daily Engineer's Report.
+ Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
+ In the absence of the Director or responsible Manager, contacts the proper personnel for assistance when required through the established On Call and Call In procedures.
+ Examines, tests, repairs or replaces such elements of systems as described in the preventive maintenance procedures.
+ Performs necessary documentation for scheduled testing as outlined in the Preventive Maintenance Procedures.
+ Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on a variety of plant equipment to include pressure vessels, boiler systems and distribution equipment.
+ Ability to read and understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints and specifications. Ability to differentiate wire colors. Equipped to evaluate malfunctioning conditions against verifiable or judgmental criteria as shown in blueprints and installation instructions. Ability to make comparisons and discriminations when cutting, fitting, disassembling and assembling components, connects or equipment.
+ Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Analytical skills necessary to perform electrical and mechanical testing on a variety of equipment. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations in testing electrical installations and to estimate material sizes. Ability to work within limits and standards set by blueprints and specifications. Capable of working under emergency conditions.
+ Performs regular inspections of equipment and facilities to include boilers, pumps, chemical water treatment systems, compressors and controls to ensure the systems and equipment are operating properly.
+ Identifies and reports problem areas, hazards and emergencies.
+ Assists other crafts in completing their duties.
+ Maintains the necessary personal tools to carry out craft duties and keeps tools in a safe and reliable condition.
+ Completes work tickets with appropriate information.
+ Demonstrates safe work habits.
+ Updates plans and drawings as required to reflect work carried out.
+ Ability to work with hand tools, making connections and assembling components. Ability to resolve routine problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to the Assistant Director. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and cooperate with various levels of Hospital personnel, physicians and patients to complete work in occupied areas in a tactful and courteous manner.
+ Orders necessary parts and material through established procedures.
Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through high school and advanced technical school.
Three years stationary engineer experience required in order to:acquire a thorough knowledge of engineering procedures.acquire a working knowledge of hospital equipment and building systems.acquire a suitable analytical and interpersonal skills.
