Utility Plant Operator ; Swing Shift; South Mountain Restoration Center

As a Utility Plant Operator 2 with the Department of Human Services (DHS) at the South Mountain Restoration Center, you will step into a role that keeps critical steam and plant systems functioning. You will support strong operations by managing boilers, pumps, compressors, and chemical controls.

This position focuses on operating and maintaining boilers and related plant equipment to support the steam needs of the South Mountain Restoration Center. As a Utility Plant Operator 2, you will perform the following duties:

• Boiler Operation:
  Run and maintain boilers in accordance with manufacturer instructions to meet steam demands
• Equipment Management:
  Operate feed water pumps, forced draft fans, air compressors, condensate return pumps, fuel oil pumps, water softeners, and chemical feed systems
• Shift Responsibility:
  Oversee sole shift operations and regulate plant components for steady performance
• System Testing:
  Test boiler and water conditions for softness, alkalinity, sulfite, phosphate, and solids, adding chemicals as needed
• Record Keeping:
  Document plant conditions every two hours and maintain production and usage logs
• Technical Tasks:
  Perform repairs, install equipment, complete maintenance assignments, and operate the emergency generator when required

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours as a Relief Operator are swing shift including 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM), 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM), and 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:
  
  In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

• One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration): or
• One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.

• You must possess an active Class C motor vehicle license.
