Description

Position Summary

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all plant cleaning activities to ensure a safe, clean, and audit-ready manufacturing environment. This position supervises a team of factory cleaners and is accountable for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in both GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) production areas and non-GMP facility areas. The Sanitation Supervisor ensures compliance with food safety, quality, and company standards while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and direct cleaning personnel.
  • Assign daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks and verify completion.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain staffing plans to ensure adequate sanitation coverage.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Lead by example in maintaining high sanitation and housekeeping standards.

GMP Area Sanitation & Audit Readiness

  • Ensure all GMP production, processing, packaging, and storage areas are cleaned and maintained according to established sanitation procedures and food safety requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs).
  • Conduct routine inspections of GMP areas to verify cleanliness and compliance.
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness for customer, and third-party audits.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Operations teams to address sanitation-related findings and corrective actions.
  • Verify completion and documentation of sanitation activities, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Support root cause investigations related to sanitation or audit findings.

Facility and Industrial Area Cleanliness

  • Oversee housekeeping and cleanliness programs for non-GMP areas, including:
  • Wash House
  • Lime Kiln
  • Maintenance Shops
  • Warehouse including bulk loading and packaging areas
  • Utility Areas
  • Grounds and exterior facility areas as assigned
  • Establish cleaning schedules and standards for all assigned facility areas.
  • Coordinate deep-cleaning projects and special housekeeping activities.
  • Ensure proper waste removal and disposal practices throughout the facility.
  • Monitor facility conditions and identify maintenance or housekeeping concerns.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ensure all employees utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of GMP requirements, food safety principles, and sanitation best practices.
  • Experience leading teams and managing employee performance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in food manufacturing or agricultural processing environments.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, BRC, FDA, or other food safety systems.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting regulatory and customer audits.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including wet, dusty, hot, cold, and noisy areas.

Success Measures

A successful Sanitation Supervisor will:

  • Maintain GMP areas in an audit-ready condition at all times.
  • Ensure Master Sanitation Sheets are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with established sanitation schedules and documentation requirements.
  • Achieve sanitation and housekeeping standards across both GMP and non-GMP facility areas, including the Wash House, Lime Kiln, Putsch Building, and other assigned locations.
  • Develop a capable, engaged, and accountable sanitation team.
  • Minimize sanitation-related audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure safe execution of all sanitation activities.
  • Maintain complete and accurate sanitation records and documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cleanliness, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effectively manage labor and resources to ensure all sanitation tasks are completed according to schedule and plant expectations.
