Lead General Maintenance Technician
Dean|Fluor is seeking a Lead General Maintenance Technician (Lead GMT) to oversee the daily maintenance operations of a 24/7/365 mission-critical government facility. The Lead GMT serves as the senior maintenance technician responsible for ensuring the safe, reliability, and efficient operation of facility infrastructure through the execution of preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance programs. This position provides direct oversight of General Maintenance Technicians and subcontractors by assigning work, establishing priorities, monitoring performance, verifying quality, and ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
As a working lead, the Lead GMT performs hands-on maintenance while providing technical leadership, mentoring personnel, coordinating maintenance activities, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that promote facility reliability and mission readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Lead General Maintenance Technician is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Leadership & Oversight
- Lead, coordinate, and oversee daily maintenance operations supporting a mission-critical facility.
- Supervise and direct the work of General Maintenance Technicians and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job training to maintenance personnel.
- Review completed work orders for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Assist Facility Management with workforce scheduling, resource allocation, maintenance planning, and operational priorities.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Facility Maintenance
- Perform and oversee the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance of facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Maintain HVAC, plumbing, low-voltage electrical, mechanical, structural, carpentry, painting, fuel systems, and other building support systems.
- Conduct routine operator rounds and facility inspections to evaluate equipment condition and identify deficiencies before failures occur.
- Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance for pumps, compressors, humidifiers, electronic door systems, gates, fencing, and other facility assets.
- Support facility renovations, office reconfigurations, equipment installations, and minor construction activities.
- Perform seasonal maintenance and support winter operations as required.
- Maintenance Planning & Documentation
- Ensure maintenance activities are accurately documented within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Review maintenance records, inspection reports, equipment history, and operational logs for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with preventive maintenance scheduling, asset reliability initiatives, backlog management, and maintenance planning.
- Recommend equipment repairs, replacements, capital improvements, and process enhancements.
- Assist with inventory management, spare parts control, and procurement recommendations.
- Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, contractual obligations, and company policies.
- Support facility inspections, audits, and government compliance reviews.
- Perform fuel system inspections, maintenance, testing, inventory management, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Serve as the maintenance lead during emergency situations, coordinating maintenance personnel and supporting rapid restoration of facility operations.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours leadership during critical facility events.
- Report equipment deficiencies, unsafe conditions, and operational concerns while recommending corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
