School - Staff - St. Coleman Catholic School
St. Coleman Catholic School in Pompano Beach, Florida has an opening for a Full-Time Maintenance Person
. This position will be responsible for maintenance / custodial duties to ensure that the facilities appearance positively reflects and enhances the school and church. The candidate performs duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and tenets of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
- Keep the school grounds, buildings, and facilities clean, safe, and in orderly condition. This includes weeding, and cleaning debris from grounds.
- Perform minor repairs in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and hardware.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on various facility systems and equipment to ensure continued functionality.
- Set up and break down facilities and equipment for school and parish events.
- Maintain and lubricate equipment and provide preventative maintenance for custodial tools.
- Keep storage areas clean and stocked with necessary supplies and notify supervisors when supplies are needed.
- Adhere to safe work practices, maintaining a safe work area, and reporting any hazards to a supervisor.
- Tend to the cleaning and custodial care of the school facilities, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting.
- Empty trash containers, refill liners, dispose of all trash in a sanitary way, using bags placed in the dumpsters.
- Remove litter and debris from all areas, observing proper disposal practices.
- Clean restrooms.
- Take care of minor plumbing repairs.
- Monitor daily the condition of and takes care of the facilities;
Seek resolutions as necessary. - Lift and/or move boxes and furniture.
- Complete tasks according to appropriate specifications, standards/best work practices and within scheduled parameters.
- Keep supervisor apprised of progress, notifying him/ her of delays.
- Report maintenance concerns to the immediate supervisor.
- Ensure the educational program is not interrupted by facility problems.
- Prioritize assignments while managing several projects at the same time.
- Follow safety rules and procedures while completing assigned tasks.
- High-school diploma or G.E.D. with three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving objects.
- Proficiency in operating various hand and power tools.
- Ability to carry 25 pounds; move or push up to 50 pounds with assistance / PPE.
- Ability to bend, sit, climb stairs.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, tools involved in the cleaning of buildings or other structures.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance skills.
- Ability to work in diverse environments, including outdoors in varying weather conditions and in confined spaces.
- Must be safety conscious and able to perform all work according to safe work practices while maintaining a safe, clean work area and tools, and report any hazards to supervisor.
- Good English-language communication skills required for interacting with staff, students, and others.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Supportive of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Must have a pleasant, service-oriented demeanor with good people skills.
