HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Principal Accountabilities
- Assist in performing routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems, including filters, belts, motors and coils.
- Support installation of new HVAC equipment and ductwork following specifications and building codes.
- Conduct basic inspections and report unusual conditions or system malfunctions to shop supervisor.
- Help troubleshoot HVAC equipment with guidance, including thermostats, air handlers, and split systems.
- Maintain daily logs, documentation, and service records for work performed.
- Assist in responding to routine temperature complaints and requests from building occupants.
- Monitor HVAC systems and report alarms or irregularities to shop supervisor.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings and job specifications for HVAC work.
- Collaborate with Facilities Engineering's other trades (plumbing, electrical, etc.) to support integrated projects.
- Ensure all work complies with infection prevention protocols, Joint Commission standards, and fire/life safety regulations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational program or technical training in HVAC work. HVAC apprenticeship or relevant technical certifications preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in a commercial or institutional HVAC work.
- Basic understanding of HVAC principles, controls, and safety protocols.
- OSHA 10/30 certificate.
- EPA 608 Certification (type 1 or Universal).
- Valid driver's license required.

AboutThe Team
Atlantic Health System’s Environmental Service Department ensures the cleanest and safest health care environment for all team members, patients and visitors. Environmental Services is responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of common areas, outpatient areas, procedural areas, and patient rooms, including bathrooms, furniture, carpet/hard surface floors, vents, electronics and patient equipment. The team uses sanitizing processes of the highest quality required by multiple regulatory agencies.
Often referred to as ‘the first line of defense against infection,’ the Environmental Service Department collaborates with the Atlantic Health System Infection Prevention and Quality Departments to ensure that there is consistent alignment at all sites.
