This seasonal role performs semi‑skilled custodial, cleaning, and general maintenance work to keep buildings, parks, playgrounds, and athletic areas clean, safe, and well maintained. Work is completed independently within an assigned area and requires strong hands‑on skills or prior experience. Key Responsibilities- Performs general custodial maintenance in buildings and parks.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks supplies; performs basic plumbing and facility repairs. - Completes basic electrical, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance tasks; removes trash and litter.
- Safely mixes and uses cleaning and maintenance products.
- Secures and monitors facilities, reporting safety or security concerns.
- Operates County vehicles, all‑terrain vehicles, and small tools and equipment.
- Maintains equipment and storage areas in safe working condition.
- Identifies and reports maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Maintains basic work records and reports.
- May oversee assigned workers, transport materials between sites, support emergency operations, and provide excellent customer service.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of work experience in a related field.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and the safe use of cleaning materials and disinfectants.
- Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics and basic record keeping practices.
- Knowledge of basic painting, plumbing, and tools and techniques.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi‑line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to operate automotive/all‑terrain vehicles and light‑duty motor vehicles.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Depending upon assignment:
Ability to work long and/or late nights, early mornings, split shifts, on weekends and holidays. - Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Ability to operate motor vehicle.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoor weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors or dust).
