Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Overview
Oversees planning and supervisory functions while performing lead-level, hands-on work across multiple maintenance areas, including custodial services, building and grounds maintenance, and athletic field upkeep. Coordinates and schedules the work of a moderately large team performing skilled, technical, mechanical, and routine maintenance tasks. Exercises independent judgment in selecting work methods and assigning priorities to ensure efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and supervise maintenance staff, including scheduling, daily assignments, and operational oversight.
- Provide technical guidance, monitor work in progress, and inspect completed tasks.
- Oversee facility maintenance projects: prepare cost estimates, submit purchase requests, obtain bids, coordinate contractors, and track progress.
- Manage equipment and supply inventory, ensure proper maintenance, and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Assist with event and facility setups in compliance with fire codes, ADA, and safety standards.
- Train new employees in safety procedures, custodial duties, groundskeeping, equipment operation, and facility maintenance.
- Conduct safety inspections, submit reports and work orders, and maintain required documentation.
- Support emergency operations as essential personnel.
- Provide exceptional customer service, problem-solving, and complaint resolution across all communication channels.
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent with some vocational or technical training in one or more building trades.
- Two (2) years of experience in moderately large-scale custodial, park and building maintenance.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain the following certifications and licensures:
- Positions assigned to Parks:
- Within eighteen (18) months of position assignment:
Playground Safety Inspector from National Recreation and Park Association
- Within eighteen (18) months of position assignment:
- Within one (1) year of position assignment:
Aerial Lift certification
- Positions assigned to Parks:
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of standard equipment, hand tools, materials, chemicals, methods, and practices of assigned trade areas.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of fire codes, ADA requirements, and safety practices for public parks and complexes.
- Analytical and research skills.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to operate aerial lift equipment.
- Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Ability to diagnose and correct problems and safety issues and establish a preventative maintenance program.
- Ability to do minor electric, plumbing, and carpentry repairs.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to act as lead worker with a team of subordinates and/or peers.
- Ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine administrative functions without referral to supervisor.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
- Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Work EnvironmentWork requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
