Position Summary
To perform general building and grounds maintenance duties for buildings under 150,000sq ft.; to oversee and perform some general custodial and cleaning tasks in the care of various county buildings or facilities, and occasionally the Intervention Center.
- Responsible for the general building and grounds maintenance for a building under 150,000 sq. ft.
- Inspect buildings to determine work to be performed.
- Check work activities and open and close buildings.
- Perform snow removal and keep sidewalks free of ice.
- Perform lawn maintenance such as mowing lawns and repairing sprinkler lines.
- Perform building maintenance such as painting, changing lights, and unplugging drains.
- Change broken electrical switches and breakers.
- Keep records of maintenance requests.
- Order and record Building Maintenance supplies.
- Grease all motors, change oil, and upkeep small engines.
- Perform all preventative maintenance on air handlers, and associated building support equipment.
- Arrange building furniture as required.
- Perform related work as required.
- Perform work requiring ability to lift object in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be available for weekend "On-Call" assignments as dictated by departmental responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervised by the Director of Buildings Operations & Maintenance or designee.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMay on occasion supervise Custodian I's and II's. Provide supervision and assign daily tasks to the Building & Grounds Worker.
Experience, Skills, Education- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
- Five years of experience in the following: building and grounds maintenance; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and small engine repair; installation, operation and repair of the various types of equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in custodial and buildings and grounds maintenance.
- Reasonable knowledge of accepted cleaning methods and materials, and the care of cleaning equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of landscape and irrigation maintenance.
- Considerable knowledge in the operation and maintenance of commercial building heating and cooling systems.
- Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
