We are looking for a Technical Specialist I to perform basic field maintenance and support for roadside toll collection equipment, helping ensure safe and reliable toll lane operations. This position will be a full-time contract role and onsite in Portage, IN.
What You'll Do
- Perform basic field maintenance and support for roadside toll collection equipment under the direction of Toll Maintenance Supervisors
- Respond to incidents assigned through the Incident Management System (Jira) or as directed by supervisors
- Conduct routine inspections of toll lane equipment, including gates, gate arms, ticket machines, payment machines, and associated components
- Perform preventive maintenance activities, including cleaning, visual inspections, and basic adjustments to toll lane equipment
- Complete assigned work tickets in Jira, documenting maintenance activities, parts used, and work performed
- Restart and reboot toll equipment, including Automatic Ticket Issuing Machines (ATIMs), Automatic Payment Machines (ATPMs), lane controllers, and related peripherals
- Perform cleaning services for toll equipment, including removing debris, cleaning sensors and readers, and maintaining equipment enclosures
- Assist with equipment installations under the supervision of senior technicians or supervisors
- Escalate complex equipment failures, networking issues, and significant technical problems to Toll Maintenance Supervisors
- Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
- Provide roadside emergency assistance within the scope of training
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform basic mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks
- Ability to follow established maintenance procedures, job aids, and standard operating procedures
- Basic troubleshooting skills for toll collection equipment and associated hardware
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to roadside incidents
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must be available to work assigned shifts (6 AM to 3 PM or 2 PM to 10 PM)
- Must report to work within seven (7) minutes before scheduled shift time
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
