Seasonal Grounds/Streets Laborer
Interested in outdoor labor where results are seen daily? The City of Portage is looking for reliable, results-driven individuals, with stamina, for the position of Seasonal Grounds/Streets Laborer within our Public Works Department.
What will you do? This position will assist Maintenance Technicians in performing general maintenance in our streets, parks, and cemeteries. Primary duties will be weed whipping, mowing and leaf blowing. Other duties may be assigned based on needs or experience such as cemetery cleanup, water shutoff, softball field maintenance, and hanging Christmas lights.
What are the qualifications? Must lift objects and tools over 50 lbs. and work under adverse weather conditions. Must be able to walk long distances wearing a backpack leaf blower. Previous related experience is desired. Must be at least 18 years old and pass a basic background check and drug/alcohol screening, including marijuana. Must have a valid driver's license with a good record.
When would I work and what will I be paid? Half-day Fridays through end of October!! The hours are 7:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Monday – Thursday and Friday 7 AM - 11AM. Beginning November 2nd, hours adjust to 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Positions will be August 31 - December 4. For those who are consistently reliable and have a good work ethic, additional opportunities may be available.
This position does have the potential for overtime. $16.00/hour. No benefits.
