The University of New England (UNE), Maine's largest private university, is hiring a Lead Housekeeper to join our campus services team. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for experienced housekeepers, custodians, janitors, or cleaners seeking a day-shift position with consistent hours.
Our housekeeping team plays a vital role in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming campus environments across university buildings and offices
Pay: $20.50 per hour (annualized to $42,640)

Responsibilities
* Lead and support a team of 12-20 housekeeping/custodial staff across multiple buildings.
* Train new employees on cleaning procedures, safety practices, and equipment use.
* Assign daily work schedules and monitor cleaning progress.
* Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
* Assist team members with problem-solving and unusual situations.
* Handle minor personnel issues and escalate concerns when needed.
* Review timesheets and support scheduling coordination.
* Perform commercial cleaning and janitorial duties including vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, floor washing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
* Shampoo carpets and perform project-based deep cleaning.
* Clean and sanitize restrooms; stock supplies and maintain cleanliness standards.
* Wash windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
* Collect trash, recycling, and maintain exterior areas around buildings.
* Replace light bulbs, move furniture, and support building setup needs.
* Perform routine cleaning of vents, fixtures, and mechanical components.
* Assist with seasonal duties such as snow removal.
* Communicate and coordinate with Facilities Management, Human Resources, and other campus departments.
* Promote a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* High school diploma preferred.
* 2-3 years of custodial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience.
* Experience with commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals.
* Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
* Strong communication, decision-making, and time management skills.
* Ability to work effectively with a diverse campus community.
* Valid driver's license required.
* Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
* Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment.
* Experience troubleshooting cleaning equipment is a plus.
