The American National Red Cross seeks a skilled General Maintenance Tech II to support safe, reliable operations across our Washington, DC facilities. In this role, you'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and repair building systems, and respond to urgent facility needs that support disaster response, blood drives, and community programs. You'll work with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems, coordinate with vendors, and ensure code compliance and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, reliable operations.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical issues; escalate complex problems as needed.
  • Complete work orders, document tasks, and maintain accurate records of parts, tools, and maintenance activities.
  • Support disaster response and blood services operations by ensuring facilities are prepared, clean, and operational.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and scheduled maintenance.
  • Respond to urgent facility and equipment issues, including after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.
  • Maintain safety, code compliance, and cleanliness standards across all assigned areas.
  • Assist with basic carpentry, painting, and minor construction or setup for programs and events.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to prioritize maintenance needs and minimize service disruption.
  • Follow Red Cross policies, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety procedures at all times.
