Overview
Summary The Maintenance Mechanic will perform Equipment Maintenance and Repair - Pipe fitting - Electronics and Welding. Repairs and/or rebuilds equipment up to and including general support repairs on a variety of equipment such as electronic patients lifts, motorized chairs, electric vehicles, medical air compressors, medical vacuum compressors, electronic door operators, patient beds, patient therapy tubs, HVAC and laundry equipment.
Additional Summary The Maintenance Mechanic will perform Equipment Maintenance and Repair - Pipe fitting - Electronics and Welding. Repairs and/or rebuilds equipment up to and including general support repairs on a variety of equipment such as electronic patients lifts, motorized chairs, electric vehicles, medical air compressors, medical vacuum compressors, electronic door operators, patient beds, patient therapy tubs, HVAC and laundry equipment.
Responsibilities- Major duties include a wide variety of technical and complicated tasks involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of items such as patient lifts, med carts, motorized chairs, exercise equipment, whirlpool patient tubs, postal machines, and electric vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance and adjustments, then document results in the preventative maintenance log.
- Perform repairs on gas engines, including engine rebuilding for grounds equipment, repair of gear boxes, repair of lawn equipment (weed eaters, chain saws, tractors) including gas and diesel, electric and gas personnel carts.
- Repair Food Service and Nutrition equipment such as carts, ovens, steamers, ranges, urns, serving line tables, Retherm carts, chairs, etc.
- Operate a wide variety of machines and tools including drill press, grinder, hydraulic press, volt-ohm meter, vacuum test gauge, hydrometer, timing lights, metal lathe, measuring instruments, dial calipers, indicators, forklifts, man lifts, and motor vehicles.
- Perform pipe fitting installations and repairs on all piping systems—including oxygen, medical air, control air, nitrous oxide, medical vacuum systems, steam, and natural gas (e.g., steam heating, steam generation, radiators, circulating pumps, and high-pressure piping systems).
- Repair condensate pumps and associated systems, medical air pumps, dental air pumps, and hot water circulating pumps using replacement packing, sleeves, bearings, seals, and impellers.
- Develop patterns and lay out, cut, form, join, assemble, and install items such as heating, air conditioning, and ventilating pipes; conduits; drying ovens; metal furniture; and other items with straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes.
- Install and repair large HVAC systems to provide heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating functions.
- Read building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of piping systems and equipment.
- Perform complex repairs on hospital and ward equipment such as hydraulic and electric beds, bed rails, adjustable chairs, stretchers, examining tables, washer/dryer sets, patient lifts, auto door operators, med carts, exercise equipment, door alarm systems, pharmacy packaging equipment, and electric mobility scooters.
- Perform all types of welding (arc, acetylene) for repairs of grounds machinery, laundry equipment, and fabrication of parts using aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Prepare jigs and fixtures to hold parts to be welded.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule:
Tuesday - Saturday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM (PST). - Physical Requirements and Safety:
The incumbent makes repairs and installations from step ladders, extension ladders, and lifts; may work in tunnels and perform lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects often exceeding 50 pounds. Responsible for maintaining and using safety equipment issued, promoting its use among colleagues. May be required to stand, crouch, or stoop for extended periods. - Working Conditions:
Exposure to power tools, fast moving cutting tools, welding (electric and acetylene), noxious gases and fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation heat, flying sparks, electrical shock, burns, and slips on wet or uneven surfaces. May encounter asbestos exposures and chemicals; work indoors and outdoors, in clean rooms, noisy and dusty environments, or areas with poor ventilation. Protective clothing such as gloves, goggles, or welding helmets may be required.

Experience A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the work. Evidence demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume.
