POSITION: Custodian/Grounds Keeper.
FTE: 0.75.
Hours: 6 Hours Per Day, 260 Days Per Year.
Salary: $20.35 - $28.17 per hour (Range
C).

JOB PURPOSE: Provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient learning environment by maintaining the facility’s cleanliness and grounds while minimizing property damage, loss, and liability.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain school grounds as directed by the head custodian.
- Clean building premises and school facilities (classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Wash, scrub, sweep, dust, and prepare surfaces for varnish, paint, wax, or polish.
- Perform minor repairs of equipment, furniture, and fixtures; remove broken glass and repair windows.
- Mow, edge, and rake grass using power or hand tools.
- Trim shrubs and trees using power and hand tools.
- Water lawns, shrubs, trees, and move and store hoses.
- Shovel snow and clear ice from entrances when needed.
- Plant shrubs and maintain flower beds as needed.
- Replace or repair door hardware and outside lighting.
- Communicate effectively, both written and orally, with all building personnel, students, and parents.
- Understand and follow district policies and regulations related to responsibilities.
- Handle minor emergencies such as cleaning up after sickness, tripped fire alarms, electrical fuses, shorted bells, locked doors, jammed pencil sharpeners, broken glass, etc.
- Keep records related to the job.
- Maintain playground equipment.
- Assist in the general security and fire safety of facilities and grounds.
- Assist other personnel as required to support the completion of their work activities.
- Repair furniture and equipment to ensure availability and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience Preferred: Prior job-related experience, preferably in a school setting.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Use cleaning agents, supplies, and equipment; perform basic math for dilution calculations.
- Understand methods and safe work practices for cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies; knowledge of district policies.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, and understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Physical abilities: reaching/handling, fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, depth perception, visual accommodation.
- Ability to speak a second language (preferred).
- Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
