Salary: (Bilingual Spanish) $23.33/hr – $25.69/hr
Job SummaryThe cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for up to 75 individuals and maintaining high standards of kitchen cleanliness.
Duties and Responsibilities- Organize, prepare, and serve complete meals as specified by the menu, including meals for special diets and occasions.
- Maintain sanitation procedures and requirements in compliance with Oregon Health Codes and Department of Education regulations.
- Keep the food preparation area and serving environment clean and compliant with health department and program requirements.
- Record daily attendance and meal counts, and track nutritional requirements to meet state and federal standards.
- Maintain cooperative and supportive relationships with food service and program staff.
- Use and maintain food service equipment, reporting any problems.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings provided by the program.
- Provide a supportive, caring, and disciplined environment for clients.
- Model professional, customer‑focused communication with all program members.
- Complete all assigned compliance, HIPAA, client privacy, fraud, waste and abuse training and understand how to report concerns.
- Commit to the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies and practices.
- Participate in staff development, in‑services, and training related to workplace effectiveness and professional behavior.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English and Spanish.

- Knowledge of nutrition.
- Ability to work with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed adolescents.
- Openness to feedback and supervision.
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts and meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year experience cooking in an industrial kitchen.
- Bilingual Spanish: ability to speak, read, write, and translate, with a language proficiency test cleared.
- Pass a criminal history background check through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
- Complete Blood‑borne Pathogens training on the first day of employment.
- Obtain a Food Handler’s Card.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Submit vaccination requirements.
- Hold a valid driver’s license, licensed in Oregon or Washington within 30 days of hire.
- Have personal transportation allowing travel within the greater Portland metropolitan area in a timely manner.
- Environment: Work in diverse settings including clinical offices, community sites, residential facilities, administration buildings, and public locations. Breaks may be interrupted; universal precautions and alertness to violent behavior, disease exposure, biohazards, noise, and contaminants are essential.
- Mental demands: Work may involve unpredictable circumstances requiring flexible time management.
- Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available while serving youth, adults, and families with trauma histories. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions; proficiency with office equipment and potential physical interventions if needed.
