Facilities Technician
A non-profit organization located in Portland's Washington Park is dedicated to teaching about the world's forests and trees and environmental sustainability.
Position OverviewThe Facilities Technician performs upkeep and restorative work on the grounds of the campus, building and facilities maintenance at assigned locations, performs event prep duties, and completes other duties that may be assigned from time to time. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.
Responsibilities- Ensures all custodial services are maintained at sufficient levels of cleanliness, ready for public use.
- Conducts daily routine: cleans restrooms, mops floors, vacuums, empties trash, cleans offices.
- Provides general maintenance and upkeep of all buildings for all campus facilities.
- Resolves work requests and repairs as assigned by Facilities & Safety Manager.
- Reports all needed repairs and safety issues to Facilities & Safety Manager.
- Addresses scheduled and routine maintenance, as assigned.
- Handles rough carpentry, HVAC, repairs, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and painting.
- Provides onsite vinyl lettering.
- Maintains landscape and other exterior areas, including all groundskeeping and trash removal.
- Picks up trash, removes graffiti, ensures grounds are safe for visitors.
- Mows lawns, weeding, prunes trees.
- During inclement weather handles snow removal, deicer, sidewalk clearing, tree and branch removal, etc.
- Provides setups and tear downs for all campus rentals, events, exhibits, and activities.
- Conducts walk-throughs to ensure event prep is ready.
- Provides AV support for staff and events, including PA system, computers, projectors, and lighting. Ensure equipment is working and ready for event.
- Provides security assistance, as needed.
- Handles welfare checks on houseless that may be on campus.
- Assists staff or visitors with any security or public safety incidents.
- Provides excellent customer service to all staff, visitors, and other users of the campus.
- Is considered essential staff and may assist manager in staff safety training.
- Completes all other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Must have a minimum of one year of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing experience.
- Previous facilities experience required, including some experience with plumbing or electrical.
- Previous janitorial experience required.
- Basic knowledge of power equipment and landscaping equipment required.
- Experience with HVAC systems preferred.
- Knowledge of forklift and scissor lift operations preferred. Will be required to pass certifications within first 90 days of hire.
- Basic knowledge of work safety practices and emergency operations preferred.
- Must have good communication skills, a willingness to learn, be able to work as a team and independently.
- Must have attention to details and strong decision-making skills, a knack for looking for things that are broken and good judgement in critical thinking skills.
- Must be able to lift minimum of 40 pounds.
- HS diploma or equivalent.
- Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record, and a vehicle as Facilities Staff are considered essential staff during bad weather and will need to be able to make it to campus in winter conditions.
- This is a full-time, hourly position that works a schedule of 4 – 10-hour shifts.
- Must be able to work flexible hours at times for emergency calls.
- Will be required to become CPR certified.
- A background check will be required.
