The Building & Development Department of the City of Prospect Heights is seeking candidates for the position of Part‑time Administrative Assistant/Permit Clerk. The City Hall is located at 8 N. Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL.
Summary of Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the building permit application process from intake to issuance. Point of first contact with residents, contractors, and business owners. Other duties include scheduling inspections, assisting with contractor registration, and multi‑family and business inspection programs. Perform clerical, general administrative, and cashier duties as required. The work environment is fast‑paced and includes significant customer contact in person, by telephone, and by email.
PositionQualifications
Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with at least three years of progressively responsible office experience. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products. Previous experience working in a fast‑paced office environment, customer service, construction management, or municipal government is preferred.
A successful candidate must have exceptional customer service skills, the ability to multitask, and possess good communication, organizational, administrative, and time management skills. The selected candidate must also successfully complete a background check and post‑offer employment physical examination, including a drug screening.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary for the position is $25.00 per hour. The position is up to 20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours annually. Not eligible for benefits or IMRF.
