Salary: $56,500 – $58,100 per year DOQ
The Prospect Heights Public Library is seeking a full‑time Cataloging Librarian to join our Technical Services team. This newly created position plays a key role in ensuring accurate, accessible bibliographic records across a wide range of formats, helping our community discover and connect with library resources.
We’re looking for someone who is organized, collaborative, and adaptable, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality work. The ideal candidate brings solid cataloging knowledge, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Performs original and copy cataloging and classification of English‑language print, non‑English language print, and non‑print materials according to national, state, and local standards and guidelines
- Performs ongoing maintenance of bibliographic, item, and authority records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency in the ILS database
- Makes cataloging decisions in conjunction with, and in the absence of Head of Technical & Automation Services
- Coordinates and/or participates in special cataloging, database cleanup, reclassification, and re‑packaging projects
Serves as a resource for cataloging inquiries and provides guidance and instruction to staff throughout the library.
Qualifications/Required knowledge/experience:
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- One (1) year original and copy cataloging experience or coursework
- Solid knowledge of current cataloging principles, practices, and standards including RDA, MARC formats, DDC, LCSH, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
- Proficient in computer and internet use, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Share Point
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with efficiency, skill, accuracy, and appropriate time management
- Ability to communicate consistently and effectively in English, verbally and in writing
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Successful employment experience in a library setting
- Working knowledge of Polaris Integrated Library System
- Working knowledge of OCLC Connection Client
- Reading knowledge of non‑English languages
- Required participation in IMRF pension plan
