A growing industrial organization is seeking a Payroll Specialist to oversee payroll operations for both hourly field employees and administrative staff. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with union requirements, and supporting broader HR and payroll initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail‑driven, comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, and confident managing complex payroll scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and validate timesheets, ensuring all hours, earnings, and deductions are complete and accurate before payroll submission.
- Manage weekly payroll for hourly employees and bi‑weekly payroll for administrative staff.
- Handle specialized payroll needs, including certified payrolls and on‑demand separation checks in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of multiple union agreements and ensure payroll practices align with each contract.
- Prepare and file monthly union fringe benefit reports with a high degree of accuracy.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll inquiries, providing clear and timely support.
- Enter new trade employees into the HRIS system and verify that all onboarding documentation is complete.
- Conduct periodic audits to confirm proper HRIS configuration, accurate fringe calculations, and clean year‑end data for W‑2 processing.
- Set up and update union pay rates, fringe structures, and related payroll elements within the HRIS.
- Coordinate with the payroll provider to resolve tax‑related issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, ideally including union, multi‑state, or certified payroll exposure.
- Prior HR experience is beneficial.
- CCP certification is a plus.
