Housekeeping/Environmental Services Aide – Brown University Health

If so, Brown University Health is looking for dependable, detail‑oriented individuals with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to cleanliness and safety to join their Environmental Services team.

In this role, you can expect the following responsibilities:

  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, offices, hallways, waiting areas, and other assigned spaces.
  • Dust, mop, vacuum, sweep, and wash floors and surfaces following established cleaning procedures.
  • Refill soap, sanitizer, paper towels, and tissue dispensers as needed.
  • Remove trash, biohazard waste, recyclables, and soiled linens in accordance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, beds, mattresses, furniture, and equipment.
  • Operate housekeeping and floor care equipment, including vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners, and other motorized/manual cleaning devices.
  • Shampoo carpets, upholstery, and assist with floor refinishing projects, as assigned.
  • Wash walls, windows, vents, light fixtures, and other high or hard-to-reach areas using proper safety equipment.
  • Assist with room setups, furniture moving, curtain changes, and special cleaning projects.
  • Follow all safety, chemical handling, infection prevention, and hazardous waste disposal procedures.
  • Report maintenance, safety, or supply concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with patients, visitors, and co‑workers.
  • Perform other related housekeeping or environmental services duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping, janitorial, custodial, or environmental services experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and transport supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, if required.
  • Comfortable with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive movement.
  • Ability to work in healthcare, commercial, or institutional environments.
  • Comfortable with exposure to cleaning chemicals, waste materials, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable with operating powered cleaning equipment and the use of ladders or safety devices.

Pay Rate Range – $18-$25.82 an hour (based on experience/location)
