Takes and records readings of plant equipment, including temperature, pressure, and vacuum. Operates a variety of pumps, valves, gates, and switches to operate plant equipment. Responds to alarms or operational problems within plant property and at remote locations, taking corrective action based on procedures or supervisor direction. Cleans plant equipment and facilities, maintaining a safe work environment. Frequently operates Forklift, Bobcat, front-end loader, sweeper, scum truck, and/or pick-up truck.

Collects samples, performs standard tests, and records results; notifies supervisor if readings are abnormal. Assists other operators and plant staff with cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and installing plant equipment. Receives hazardous materials (chemical deliveries) and completes appropriate paperwork. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Drives facility vehicle on or off site as required. Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. as required and authorized by Chapter 42-17 of the RI General Laws (RIGL) of 1956.

Basic maintenance performance, following instructions, communication, and interpersonal skills for interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public. Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation principles and practices.

Within one year of employment, must possess and Oper- ator-in-Training (OIT) Grade I certification license for wastewater treatment plant. A valid driver’s license in good standing is required at time of hire.
