Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator (Lead and Staff)

Mission

Responsibilities
  • Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Jumbo Reservoir near Crook, Colorado.
  • For Lead: provide on‑the‑job training to inspection staff, create schedules and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours, collect and verify accurate time‑keeping records for payroll purposes, work with area work lead to resolve staff and customer challenges, and recommend hiring/firing decisions to area work lead.
  • Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols by performing quality‑control assessments on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure accurate and complete data entry by all inspection station staff.
  • Maintain inventory of all required supplies, perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit.
  • Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
  • For Staff: inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels, either independently or in pairs.
  • Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by distributing printed material to those visiting the reservoir.
  • Report directly to the boat ramp.
  • Receive boat inspection training and perform duties independently as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • For Lead: good driving record, able to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings, good written and verbal communication skills, excellent customer service experience, reliable and timely, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • For Staff: able to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings, good written and verbal communication skills, excellent customer service experience desired, reliable and timely, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, & heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access.
Vehicle Policy

Workers who will be expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving. Motor Vehicle Records will be pulled for workers who: have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
