Division of Facilities Management - Southern District

The Division of Facilities Management plans, designs, constructs, operates, maintains, and manages the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary, and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers, and staff. Facilities served include the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek, Pueblo Youth Services Center), and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district.

Work is required at your assigned location during scheduled hours. Work arrangements may change at any time. This role provides 24/7 operations and maintenance functions for the facilities’ physical plant equipment located within the heat plant, performing essential operational functions, maintenance, cleanliness, scheduled and emergency repairs (electrical and mechanical) to ensure equipment longevity.

Primary

Job Duties
  • Operation and maintenance of high‑pressure steam boilers (coal, natural gas, diesel), DCS, PLCs, and qualitative and quantitative analysis of all process fluids entering and leaving the steam plant, using accepted titration methods.
  • Monitor building automation system for alarms that need addressing during 2nd and 3rd shifts.
  • Notify night truck mechanics or trade shop supervisors for situations requiring immediate attention and answer tenant phone calls during 2nd and 3rd shifts.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness.
  • Ensure proper operation of plant machinery, including valves, pumps, fans, turbines, electric motors, coal and ash handling system components, piping distribution system, and digital control system components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant machinery and digital control systems.
  • Drive, test, and maintain diesel‑powered emergency electric generators in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain grounds area surrounding the building.
  • Drive state vehicles as part of the work assignment.
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Information

This is a full‑time, in‑person, essential position requiring response to after‑hours callbacks for emergency services. Positions perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates. Employees in essential positions are non‑exempt and may work unexpected hours.

Call back applies when an eligible employee is required to report before or after a scheduled shift. A minimum of two (2) hours of regular base pay is guaranteed for call back time. Eligible employees must be able to work overtime and receive call back compensation as work time.

Requirements
  • Experience Only: At least four (4) years of work experience in high‑pressure boiler operations performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Detail this experience in the work experience section of your application.
  • Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formal apprenticeship, and/or experience in high‑pressure boiler operations equal to four (4) years.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Possession of a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE, or equivalent. Attach the license or certification to your application.

  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • Must pass a full background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE, or equivalent within nine (9) months of hire and throughout employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license. Out‑of‑state holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of employment start date.
