SUMMARY

Operating under the direction of the assigned Supervisor, this position is responsible for painting and striping of D51 athletic fields for outdoor sports including football, baseball, soccer (girls and boys), lacrosse, and softball, as well as parking lot striping at the District's 50+ sites. The role also participates in the regular grounds crew, handling landscaping, equipment setup for events, and safe handling, disposal, and record‑keeping of paint and chemicals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary duties include operating the striping machine, laying precise line widths and colors, mapping and calculating athletic field grids, and ensuring compliance with Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSSA) regulations. The employee maintains a parking lot striping program, schedules work around school activities, and follows federal and CDOT color coding, ADA, and safety requirements, especially when working near students and staff.
  • Participate in all regular grounds worker duties, which may include laying sod, mowing, trimming, planting, fertilizing, operating heavy equipment (skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator), repairing irrigation systems, removing debris, and driving dump trucks for supplies.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down bleachers and event equipment, facilitating use of city or county properties, and performing work outside normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Participate in environmental and safety trainings related to chemical handling, disposal, and emergency containment activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required*
    • Minimum two years’ prior experience in grounds, maintenance or related trades
    • Demonstrated knowledge of field striping machines, including loading, cleaning, and maintenance
    • Preference for applicants with prior school district system experience
    • *(Acceptable educational equivalent or applicable field experience will be at the sole discretion of the District)
    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Criminal background check required at hire
    • Commercial driver's license (Class

      A) preferred or ability to obtain within one year of hire*
    • Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet CSDSIP insurability standards at hire and throughout employment
    • EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (40

      CFR
      745) training required within 30 days of hire
    • District approved lift test (50 lbs) required at hire, recertification every 3 years
    • Attend and complete all staff development and recertification training as required by regulatory agencies or Supervisor
    TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
    • Extensive legal knowledge of federal, state, and district environmental compliance regulations including OSHA, 49 CFR, 6

      CCR, ESSA, IDEA, and Title VI
    • Proficiency in interpreting and implementing OSHA safety data sheet protocols
    • Strong mathematical skills for planning and laying athletic field grids
    • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, scheduling, report writing, and record‑keeping skills
    • Ability to develop and evaluate safe processes, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing circumstances
    • Proficiency in de‑escalation, confidentiality, advocacy for diverse students, and compliance with Board of Education policies
    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
    • Basic mechanical and pressure regulator parts and functions; preference for plumbing and electrical system knowledge
    • Knowledge of various paints, stripping products, hand and power tools, and commercial landscaping equipment
    • Experience with office equipment and software (email, word processing, spreadsheets)
    • Use of District approved uniforms and equipment required
