The Maintenance Staff is responsible for keeping branches and grounds functionally and aesthetically pleasing. This position ensures the branches are tidy, clean and well‑maintained.
Responsibilities- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in assigned areas including sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, clean windows, refrigerator, bathrooms, shower, empty trash, locker rooms, and recycling
- Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, tiled areas, and other surfaces, including striping, polishing, and waxing floors, and providing carpet care
- Clean, descale and sanitize sinks, toilets, showers, restrooms, and other assigned areas of the building
- Re‑fill all product dispensers such as soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc.
- Replace light bulbs
- Empty waste containers and replace soiled container liners
- Dust furniture in office areas and meeting spaces, walls and ceilings
- Rearrange furniture as required
- Assist with snow removal as needed
- Participate in setups, takedowns and move furniture and equipment as needed
- Assist or relieve personnel in other areas in emergency, staff shortage, or job vacancy
- Complete assigned responsibilities during facility shutdowns
- Understand and perform skills established in the YUSA Maintenance Standards Manual
- Operate all equipment properly and promptly report any problems to supervisor
- Report any damage to supervisor
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures; complete incident and accident reports as necessary
- Incorporate the mission, philosophy and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co‑workers
- Perform routine maintenance as assigned, assist with maintenance jobs requiring more than one person
- Respond to member and staff service needs
- High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
- Minimum one year of related experience in custodial work
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proficient with handling basic maintenance repairs
- Able to work a flexible work schedule including but not limited to after‑hours cleaning of the facility
- Knowledge and ability to work with chemicals and equipment in the prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, SDS information, and instructions
- Prior knowledge or understanding of cleaning agents, appropriate commercial and/or industrial cleaning techniques
- Possesses mature judgment and sound decision‑making
- Knowledge of safety issues related to facility site
- Ability to communicate effectively with members, peers, volunteers and supervisor
- Prior knowledge of methods of maintenance for carpet and hard surface floors and commercial chemical application is preferred
