Puyallup, WA 98372. Salary Range: $16.66 - $24.00 per hour. Position:
Maintenance Assistant.

Reporting: This position reports to the Maintenance Director.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain all interior fixtures in good repair, including walls, woodwork, handrails, nurse call systems, light fixtures, furniture, and more, following established procedures.
  • Maintain plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems per procedures, manufacturer instructions, and applicable laws.
  • Troubleshoot failures in plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, or ventilation systems and secure licensed service firms under the Guidance of the Maintenance Director.
  • Check the Maintenance Log, routinely repair and document corrections promptly.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests.
  • Assist the Maintenance Director with keeping the Maintenance Log up-to-date by completing routine maintenance checks, including:
    • Running the emergency generator (every 14 days)
    • Checking fire alarms, fire extinguishers, smoke and heat detectors, and sprinkler systems
    • Checking water temperatures (daily)
    • Checking, oiling, and cleaning community fans (monthly)
    • Notating all service company visits
    • Checking oxygen rooms and/or S systems (weekly)
    • Checking call lights (daily to monthly)
    • Cleaning and replacing filters on the ventilation system
  • Keep the exterior of the building in good repair, including:
    • Painting as necessary
    • Semi-annual pipe and duct cleaning
    • Keeping grounds neat and clean
    • Maintaining workshop and mechanical room in a neat, hazard-free condition and properly storing flammable materials
    • Cleaning garbage cans and refuse area
  • Perform general repairs, including fixing:
    • Broken windows and screens
    • Loose handrails or grab bars
    • Loose or wobbly furniture legs
    • Loose door knobs or door fixtures
    • Repair and maintain wheelchairs
    • Inspect and clean roof and gutters periodically and repair as necessary
  • Assure that the preventative maintenance schedule is met and properly recorded, covering:
    • Mechanical patient lifts
    • Grease trap kitchen equipment
    • Dryers and washers
    • Refrigerator and freezer units
    • Dishwasher and ice machines
    • Shower chairs and hair dryers
    • Shower hoses, suction machines, generators
    • Call system, heating/cooling system, community vehicles
    • Et cetera
  • Assist the Maintenance Director in maintaining required Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Practice infection control policies and procedures of the department and community.
  • Practice safety procedures of the department and community.
  • React appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations.
  • Assist the Maintenance Director in Quality Assurance Program initiatives.
  • Communicate courteously, considerately, and cooperatively with all community personnel, residents, and the public.
  • Attend in-service training and other staff meetings as required.
  • Attend and participate in community committee meetings as required.
  • Responsible for or assist in conducting monthly fire drills, internal disaster drills, and every six months external and mass casualty drills.

Physical Capacities

  • Meet general health requirements set by facility policies, including annual TB screening and physical examination.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent crawling, climbing, bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
  • Bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as necessary.
  • Coping with mental and emotional stress of the position.
Environmental Conditions

Primarily inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure, and potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
