Job Summary
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Join the growing BILH team and make a difference in people’s lives.
Responsibilities- Perform daily, discharge, and project cleaning tasks in patient areas, offices, public spaces, and other non‑patient areas.
- Execute multiple‑step cleaning procedures, including O.R. cleaning, between‑case cleaning, upholstery, wall, and glass care.
- Conduct dry and wet mopping of common areas using floor care machines; perform carpet care techniques such as bonneting and extracting.
- Respond to stat orders such as discharges, spills, floods, and participate in hospital‑wide emergency drills.
- Clean organic body waste, patient equipment (IV poles, monitors, stretchers, wheelchairs, cardiac chairs), and assist in moves and special set‑ups.
- Collect, seal, and deliver solid and contaminated waste to designated compactor areas.
- Use department procedures for preparing and selecting cleaning solutions; report low inventory and equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
- Maintain housekeeping cart cleanliness, stocking, and order; sign equipment in and out of storage areas.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 0–1 year related work experience.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to navigate web‑based applications.
- Decision Making: Make decisions based on specific instructions, standard practices, and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Problem Solving: Address routine problems by following clear directions and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Independence of Action: Follow general instructions and procedures; work is monitored by a supervisor/manager.
- Written Communications: Read, write, and understand basic safety instructions in English; communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
- Oral Communications: Understand spoken English to follow safety instructions and respond to routine questions.
- Knowledge: Demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures applicable to routine situations.
- Team Work: Interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts to share ideas and deliver services.
- Customer Service: Exhibit a positive attitude and respond to requests promptly and respectfully.
Medium work:
Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently; staff must stand and move throughout the majority of their shift.
$17.00 – $22.88 per hour (base hourly wage; may increase with shift differentials, call pay, and overtime).
Vaccination RequirementBeth Israel Lahey Health requires all staff to be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
