At Enbridge, we deliver safe and reliable natural gas to millions of customers throughout North Carolina. The Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company’s natural gas distribution system.

Important Note

This role is considered safety sensitive and may require background screenings, including driving record, criminal check, and company-sponsored medical and drug testing. The position reports to our Raleigh Operations Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

What You Will Do
  • Perform location of natural gas lines and facilities.
  • Complete natural gas emergency response procedures and leak investigation/detection.
  • Participate in repairs to damaged gas service lines and third‑party damage using self‑contained breathing apparatus equipment.
  • Perform damage‑prevention outreach to increase awareness of 811 and safe digging practices.
  • Install leak repair clamps and repair tracer wire.
  • Complete a variety of paperwork in writing and electronic work queues.
  • Safely drive a company vehicle and maintain the vehicle inventory.
Who You Are
  • 0–12 months of locating experience.
  • Completed high school or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (strongly preferred) or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Experience with common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to don and be fit‑tested for self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions.
  • Basic computer and internet navigation skills.
  • Strong time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform extensive walking, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member within a diverse team.
  • Availability for overtime, as needed.
  • Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, evenings, and some weekends while on call.
  • Willingness and ability to meet a 45‑minute emergency response time from the geographic center of the Durham area; must consistently meet this requirement during on‑call periods.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  • 6–12 months of locating experience.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates preferred.
Working Conditions

The position typically works independently within a defined locate area. Work is performed primarily outside in varying weather conditions (cold, heat, rain). The role requires continuous travel throughout the service territory with frequent stops, entering and exiting the company vehicle, safely parking in a variety of situations, and driving in construction zones.

Physical Requirements
  • Balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying up to 80 lbs.
  • Grasping, kneeling, lifting objects up to 80 lbs.
  • Pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder.
  • Repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual requirement: ability to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print.
  • Hearing requirement.
Mental Requirements
  • Understand, remember, and apply oral and written instructions.
  • Understand complex problems and collaborate to explore alternative solutions.
  • Organize thoughts and ideas into clear terminology, prioritize work schedule on a short‑term basis, and make decisions with moderate impact.
  • Follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda, basic reports, and communicate via telephone.
