This Maintenance/Construction Technician I position is responsible for site maintenance, groundskeeping and occasional visitor services at the Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site in Midland, North Carolina. This position works a Tuesday-Saturday schedule, with occasional night or weekend work.

• Site grounds keeping, including mowing, string-trimming, and trail maintenance.
• Assist with the site's fresh water and wastewater systems.
• Assist with building and structure maintenance, including minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Help maintain site equipment, such as vehicles, mowers, tractors, and power tools.
• Provide janitorial services for site restrooms and other facilities.

Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

• Certification or ability to obtain certification in CWell and/or Surface Irrigation.
• Experience with groundskeeping or landscaping.
• Experience with small engine and/or mechanical repair.

$31,200.00 - $41,749.00

Must be available to work the schedule of Tuesday - Saturday 8:30am - 5:00pm

Reed Gold Mine preserves North Carolina's gold mining heritage with an emphasis on the Reed mine, the site of the first documented gold discovery in the United States. The site consists of 888 acres and features a Visitor Center with gift shop and museum, restored underground tunnels, an operating stamp mill, hiking trails, and a gold panning activity area. Approximately 35,000 visitors come annually to experience the site, including around 18,000 youth and school students.

Several special events are held each year and many offsite presentations serve to attract visitors and inform about gold and gold mining in North Carolina.
