The Housekeeper I performs routine custodial services that maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming campus environment. Under the direction of the Housekeeping Shift Supervisor, this position is responsible for cleaning residence halls, classrooms, offices, restrooms, public spaces, and other assigned facilities in accordance with established departmental standards.

This position performs routine housekeeping duties while developing proficiency in custodial methods, equipment, and campus procedures. Employees are expected to work collaboratively with other housekeeping staff and contribute to maintaining a positive customer experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel under College policy and is required to respond during inclement weather, emergency events, and other campus operational needs.

Regular Work Schedule

2nd

Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m.

- 10:30pm. Weekend and overtime work may be required based on operational needs.

Duties
  • Clean assigned residence halls, academic buildings, administrative offices, classrooms, restrooms, and public areas according to departmental standards.
  • Perform routine floor care, including sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping, vacuuming, and spot cleaning.
  • Operate standard custodial equipment safely and effectively.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, ledges, vents, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Clean mirrors, glass doors, interior windows, and other glass surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, partitions, and dispensers.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated collection areas.
  • Restock restroom supplies and other consumable custodial products.
  • Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, safety concerns, or unusual building conditions to the supervisor.
  • Assist with project work, including deep cleaning, carpet care, furniture moving, and event setup or breakdown as assigned.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and facility recovery efforts as directed.
  • Duties may include inclement weather safety responsibilities, including the removal of snow, ice and/or branches, and other related responsibilities as necessary due to inclement weather.
  • May be required to work during campus closures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and perform standard custodial procedures and practices.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and tools, including pressure washers when assigned.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ability to recognize and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working in offices and other sensitive areas.
Education & Experience
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, hospitality or related experience in commercial, institutional, healthcare, hospitality, or higher education is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully learn departmental cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • Works in moderate noise all around campus, indoor and outdoor.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, use of repetitive motions and operating cleaning equipment.
  • Often lifts 10-50 lbs. objects.
  • May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
