The Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II to perform skilled small engine, automotive, and/or heavy equipment repair. Work includes the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to highly complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software;

recurring and non-recurring work such as electrical, suspension, brake system repair, and /or fitting and repairing more complex ancillary and specialized equipment. Conducting parts/systems failure analysis; and the calibration, adjustment and operation of engine analyzers. Routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and ancillary components/equipment.

• Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop, as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment.
• Diagnose and repair various automotive, small engine, and/or heavy equipment systems.
• Manage on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities.
• Supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers, and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors.

$39,244 - $45,998 Annually

• Must have a valid NC Class A CDL license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Must have the ability to follow verbal and written project directions and to work independently as needed.
• Typical work schedule is (40 hrs. per week) Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary and second shift may be needed.
• Must be able to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs periodically and 50 lbs consistently with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and movements associated with trade work.
• Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions throughout the year with or without reasonable accommodation.

A sign-on bonus of $1000 is being offered for eligible candidates. Eligibility is outlined at  Payout contingent on funding availability.

• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, OR a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart
