School Custodian Substitute – Openings at all three schools – $16.25 per hour – Part‑time, non‑benefit position

Reports To: Head Custodian and Facilities Director

Job Goal: To provide a clean, safe, and comfortable learning environment for all students and staff

A. General:

• Clean all classrooms, corridors, store rooms, work rooms, offices, teacher’s room, kitchen, cafeteria, and toilet rooms, including sweeping, dry mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal
• Maintain tile floors (stripping, sealing, finishing, washing, buffing, and recoating as required)
• Vacuum carpeted floors daily, spot clean as required, and shampoo at least once a year
• Wash and sanitize toilet room floors daily; clean and sanitize toilet fixtures daily; maintain walls clean and graffiti free as required
• Dust, wash windows, mirrors, and woodwork; clean classroom sinks; perform minor maintenance and repairs as necessary and time allows
• Set up and take down chairs, tables, A.V. equipment and any required material for various functions as required
• Clean and sanitize drinking fountains daily
• Operate cleaning equipment
• Maintain litter‑free grounds

B. Safety and Security:

• Assure walkways and stairwells are clear of all debris
• Clean spills; remove snow, sand, or salt ice as required
• Maintain entry‑way lights as required
• During heating season, ensure boilers are operating
• Lock classrooms after hours and engage the security system upon leaving the building
• Report any maintenance or security problems to the head custodian immediately

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift objects weighing 5–60 lbs.
• Must be able to stand or walk for periods of 2–7.5 hours
• Position requires repetitive hand motions and the ability to push, pull, and reach overhead objects
• Must be able to operate cleaning equipment

D. Personal:

• Promptness is necessary; be on time for work
• Appropriate dress and personal hygiene are required
• Custodians are expected to conduct themselves in a polite, friendly manner
• Cooperation and teamwork are required; respect for and capacity to assist each other is expected

E. Other:

• Other duties and requirements as directed by the Head Custodian or Facilities Director
