Position: Custodian - 8 hrs per day -Great Health and Retirement Benefits - No Experience Required

Cleaning And Maintenance Worker

Under general supervision, to keep an assigned building area clean, sanitary, safe and orderly; to secure rooms and buildings; to do special cleaning and building maintenance periodically; to do some outdoor cleaning; and to do related work as required.

Examples of duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming rugs and carpets, dusting, washing and polishing furniture and woodwork, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, walls, sinks and fountains, cleaning restrooms, polishing metalwork, filling paper and soap dispensers, replacing light bulbs and making minor maintenance repairs, replenishing supplies, turning out lights and securing area by locking doors, windows and gates, patrolling areas to prevent vandalism and theft, moving, arranging and setting up furniture and equipment for sporting and special events and meetings, directing students and visitors to designated locations, raising, lowering, folding and storing flags, cleaning cafeteria, transporting goods and supplies from one location to another, and supervising student workers.

During the time when school is not in session, positions assigned to this class may participate in general maintenance and repair work such painting, carpentry, relining fields, or other special projects.

Training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; no experience required, however, some experience in cleaning methods is desirable; character references may be checked.

Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture; safety related to cleaning methods, practices and equipment.

Ability to maintain work schedules in performing tasks; perform heavy manual labor; work without immediate supervision; be on call in case of emergencies; operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Some positions may require a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Good physical condition as determined by pre- and post employment inquiries and health reports.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and on occasion lift and/or move with the assistance up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to reach high places with the assistance of ladders, scaffolds, and/or lifts. Must be able to perform "push/pull" motions as associated with mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
