Position SummaryJohn Read Middle School is seeking a caring, dependable, and collaborative Math Para educator to provide academic support to middle school students. This position works closely with teachers and other school staff to help students strengthen their mathematical understanding, develop confidence, and experience success.
The Math Para educator will provide a combination of push-in classroom support and individual or small-group pull-out support based on student needs.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide targeted support for students, individually or in small-group, who would benefit from additional instruction, practice, or reinforcement.
- Support students with foundational mathematics and grade-level concepts skills.
- Reinforce teacher-developed lessons, interventions, and instructional strategies.
- Help students develop mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, organization, and effective learning strategies.
- Provide clarification, prompting, modeling, and guided practice while encouraging students to become increasingly independent learners.
- Encourage perseverance, confidence, and productive struggle when students encounter challenging mathematics.
- Communicate regularly with teachers regarding student understanding, progress, and areas of difficulty.
- Develop positive and respectful relationships with students and staff.
- Maintain student confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have strong mathematics skills and an interest in helping middle school students learn and succeed. Candidates should demonstrate patience, flexibility, dependability, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
An Associate's or Bachelor's degree and previous experience working with children or adolescents are preferred. Experience with middle school mathematics, tutoring, intervention, or academic support is highly desirable.
