Student Worker - Grounds Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance Services

Job Overview

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Student Worker for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department.

Note:

This position requires pre‑employment, post‑accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test.

• Assist with daily grounds maintenance duties.
• Drive carts on campus roads with pedestrians.
• Pick up trash and recyclables; remove garbage from trashcans and install new liners.
• Sweep debris from sidewalks, gutters, and throughout campus.
• Prepare for springtime week removal and planter bed season prep, including removal of excess material to lay new mulch.
• Mulch beds with bark mulch, decomposed granite, and river rock as instructed.
• Perform grounds care such as mowing, trimming, and cleanup.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

• Must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno.
• Dependable, reliable, thorough, motivated, and detail‑oriented.
• Able to work as part of a team and follow instructions.

• Walking or standing for significant periods.
• Pushing and/or pulling equipment.
• Occasional exertion of 50–100 pounds; frequent exertion of 25–50 pounds; constant light exertion up to 10–20 pounds.
• Exposure to hot and cold temperatures outdoors.

During semester: 25 hours per week. During breaks: up to 40 hours per week. Shifts Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm (subject to change).

Grade Student Employee Level1: $13.00/hour.
