Position: Maintenance Assistant - 1st Shift (6am-2:30pm, Sunday-Thursday)

Barnes & Noble Reno Distribution Center is hiring. We are looking to fill the role of a Maintenance Assistant.

Starting rate of pay: $20.00/hr.

Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will perform daily maintenance functions such as minor repairs, cleaning, lubrication, assisting and partnering with Maintenance Technicians with various repairs and projects, and operating warehouse equipment such as floor scrubbers, cardboard balers/compactors, forklift battery changers, and various types of lift equipment.

  • Work as a team member to resolve minor repair functions.
  • Assist Technicians with repairs and adjustments to equipment and facilities as directed by the maintenance supervisor.
  • Perform assigned tasks with a high sense of urgency.
  • Provide assistance to technicians with preventative maintenance (PM) according to schedules; clean and lubricate, check fluid levels on equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Assemble and move furniture to keep the facility operating.
  • Change light bulbs, mounting hardware, and paint to keep the facility clean and presentable.
  • Perform general cleanup and other tasks as assigned.
  • Practice safe work habits while protecting company assets and promoting corporate safety policies.
  • Exposure to working at heights and use of ladders, man lifts, forklifts, carts while following safety guidelines when these conditions are present.
  • Work environment may include working around moving mechanical parts, caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat or cold, and outside weather conditions; consistently follows safety guidelines when these conditions are present.
  • Maintain battery change log.
  • Assist Technicians with general upkeep of conveyor systems, racking, dock doors, and lighting throughout the warehouse.
  • Support cleaning and care of mechanical areas, battery charging areas, and utility closets.
  • Assist with snow removal and other seasonal maintenance tasks.
Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as well as follow directions in a detailed and accurate manner.
  • General mechanical knowledge and/or mechanical aptitude.
  • Comfortable working with and around machinery; working at heights.
  • Experience driving forklifts and other lifting equipment, and other machinery.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Safety knowledge and awareness; ability to identify and communicate hazards; a conscious team player and maintain a strong sense of urgency.
  • Continuous body movement and the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs; experience with team lifts/lifting procedures.
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet business requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of proper use of basic hand tools (power tools preferred).
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of employees and management effectively.
  • Can multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a safe manner.
  • Prior experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or industrial maintenance environment or related mechanical experience required.
  • Experience with basic facility maintenance tasks such as painting, light plumbing, or minor electrical work.
