If you are the type of person who likes it when every day is a little different, then read on because the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our hard-working Reno-Stead Airport team as an Operations Specialist to perform a wide variety of highly responsible administrative functions. Stead is the Reno-Tahoe International Airport's "sister airport to the north," a 5,000-acre facility with all kinds of interesting things going on.
Stead supports general aviation services, and is an FAA designated UAS (i.e., drones) test range.

ThePosition
Under general direction, performs a wide variety of highly responsible administrative functions, ranging from moderately difficult to complex, in support of the Reno-Stead General Aviation Airport. The Operations Specialist – Stead classification exists to provide paraprofessional duties in an assistive role for the Reno–Stead General Aviation Airport, interacting by phone, email and written correspondence with internal and external customers, which requires the use of analytical and critical thinking to determine appropriate action.
Incumbents have a moderate degree of latitude in choosing the manner in which to accomplish goals and objectives. Problem resolution often requires research, comparison and examination of detailed information. The nature of the work includes regular involvement in tasks of a sensitive or confidential nature.
- Coordinate hangar inspection process with tenants and Airport Fire Inspectors; minimize inconvenience and maximize productivity of process through organization and detailed inspection protocols.
- Draft and deploy Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS), airfield condition reports in order to maintain safe conditions on the airfield as well as update the AWOS (Automated Weather Observation System).
- Maintain and administer the security card/gate access program. Monitor and understand process to review security cameras.
- Handle may-day calls and track down information on missing aircraft and communicate status.
- Assist Airport Staff with tracking and information needed to maintain environmental compliance throughout the property.
- Calculate costs for various units of service and compare fee collections to costs associated with the service; obtain cost estimates and recommend consolidation and/or negotiate optimal fee structures.
- Maintain and update the calendar of events for the public-facing website.
- Assist with multiple aspects of tenant relations, special events, communicating necessary, pertinent information.
- As required, provide Snow Desk support at both Reno Stead Airport and if needed, at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
- Create and provide new employee orientation tour for Stead Airport for organizationally hired new employees.
- Serve as liaison to building managers, owners, and contractors to maintain and coordinate general maintenance, building environments, building security alarm and phone systems, codes and passes.
- Receive and screen telephone calls, emails, and/or correspondence; take detailed messages; assess relative importance; respond to requests for information; recommend action to resolve the request or complaint or refer to higher level staff for response or disposition.
- Provide support for the organization, scheduling and coordinating of special events, projects, activities, and annual safety inspections.
- Maintain schedule for Stead terminal community room; provide onsite support; work with finance and economic development to process agreements and payments with community groups and users of the room.
- Research and assemble information from a variety of sources for the preparation of reports and correspondence. Format, edit, and produce a variety of complex materials such as letters, memoranda, correspondence, Board agenda materials, reports, presentations, and other documents, often of a highly sensitive and confidential nature, from rough draft, or verbal instruction; review drafts for proper punctuation, spelling and grammar, accuracy, completeness;
and review for compliance with RTAA standards, policies and procedures. - This position may be deemed to be essential personnel as part of RTAA's Emergency Response Team and may be required to respond to airport incidents as requested/required.
